Fifteen months... What an adventure.

First off, I could have sat and typed this blog for a very long time. It started getting long so here it is. Hope you enjoy....

Alabama

Oh boy what a lot of driving the beginning of this week was. We sadly said our goodbyes to the Lubojasky family and hit the road east. Life was going to be slightly different with a girl on board but we were ok with that. The four of us left Houston, Texas Sunday night and I drove till I couldn't drive anymore. We spent the night in a very creepy casino truck stop. The night was terribly humid, hot, and noisy. The mosquitoes decided they would come out for a feeding frenzy on our bodies. I woke up every 30 minutes, killed a number of skeets, and would go back to bed. Finally at 6:30am, I couldn't take it anymore and retreated to the even creepier truckers lounge that was nothing but mirrors on the walls and ceiling.

It's the final countdown!

My life has been mixed emotions this past week. Reality has really started to set in for me that the bus adventure is truly coming to a close and done. Its a very bittersweet feeling.  I'm very ready for the next chapter of my life and a regular home, routine, and daily shower. However, I'm not ready to give up total freedom and the love of a simple life. Instead of waking up when I feel like it and enjoying my daily coffee while journaling,  I will be waking up at 4am and getting ready for a 10 hour day of driving a garbage truck.  I won't be waking up in an ever changing environment and be forced to adapt. I'll be waking up in my bedroom, comfortable and with no eyes staring at me.

friends and family

I have been off the radar for a week now and have been having a fantastic time. March 3, I flew out of Austin, Texas and into Chicago. From there, I hopped on a bus and motored my way to Michigan City, Indiana. Only 3 people knew I was coming home because it was suppose to be a surprise to my aging brother. I surprised him at his birthday party and had a fantastic time with friends and family. Thankfully, I took care of his birthday presents for the next 14 years with one click of the mouse button purchasing tickets. Due to his increasing age, he may not remember I was home but it was still worth it.

Butts.

I am a forever snowbird. Being in the southern states as it is cold in the north is very pleasing to me. Today, it was close to 80 and sunny. The warmth sure beats 40 or whatever homes temperature is. I'm taking in everyday as though it is my last these days. Sad part is, they are. It's been talked about a lot between us and never been publicly put out there until now. The Lost Bus has it's official end date and it's coming in a hurry.

Some random info on what we eat

As we slowly traverse across the southern desert states, I find myself bored and looking for something to do. So, as I sit here I thought why not type up a blog about what the lost bus babes diet is. Everyone always asks us if we eat a lot of ramen noodles and in fact we eat none. I'm not even sure if there is any on this bus. There may be a dusty pack tucked away in cupboard somewhere and if there is, it will probably go down with the bus.

Sandy everything!

I just experienced the most simplistic form of life. Time stood still but yet passed by and before I knew it three days had passed. Before that, I found myself in a jaw dropping scene for two days. Life has been a whirlwind of activity and to be truly honest, up until two hours ago I had no idea what day it was and couldn't even begin to guess.

Livin' at the Ritz

Oh Southern California how I love your climate. Waking up to palm trees and blue skies is something I greatly appreciate. We've had rain once since being here, otherwise it's been a sunny 70ish degrees and very enjoyable. I hate to admit this next part but I feel I have too. I'm from Michigan and cold weather is normal. Today it got what I thought was cold out, so I put on a thick sweater and jacket. Soon after, I proceeded to put a winter cap on. I then looked at the thermometer and it was a bone chilling 60 degrees outside. I would have guessed it was in the high 40's or at least that's what it felt like. Seems I've turned into one of the youngest snow birds and am a wuss when it comes to "chilly weather".

Blog.

Its definitely been a pretty awesome couple days for me. We pulled into the Dream Center on Thursday not really expecting how incredible it really would be. The Dream Center is Christian based and for people that have been addicted to drugs, alcohol, abuse, homeless and the list goes on. The campus is an old 700 room hospital and been renovated for it current purpose of housing all these people. It's volunteer driven and serves over 40,000 people a month. Most of the people there have been through the ringer and are now some of the happiest people I have met.  They send a few food trucks out in the morning and afternoon and give out food to the poor and people in need. We went in the most dangerous parts of town where it would not be safe at all for me to walk around.

Hollywood baby!

My previous blog about where we were staying being dirty still holds strong, but the people we met were unforgettable. Upon our return, we stayed at B and G Hay Lot and did some volunteering from there. Johnny Ray, Linda, and Hockey became like family for that quick week and treated us very well. I learned about hay, prices, weight, what's good hay, bad hay, and what the local talk was about farmers in town. I woke up earlier than usual, sometimes even 6:45, to go inside and drink excessive amounts of coffee and shoot the breeze with the regulars. Mamma, Whitey, and Peenee were our doggy lot mates along with about 15 cows and 8 horses. Sadly, a couple days before we left, Peenee was found in the road and didn't make it.
